Sweet Tooth, Netflix’s adaptation of Jeff Lemire’s graphic novels, only has one more season. That’s the bad news; the good news is, it’s already been filmed.

“In a lot of ways, it’s exactly the story that I imagined we would tell and in a lot of ways it takes on its own life,” showrunner Jim Mickle told Netflix of the eight-episode final season, which begins with a road trip to Alaska. (New Zealand stands in for the northern state.)

Mickle says season three is darker than season two: “Everybody is dealing with some kind of wound or emotional loss, whether that was somebody in their life or a part of themselves. … Everybody is looking inward and looking to move on and ultimately learning that life doesn’t stop. You have to keep putting one foot in front of another.”

Along with the new setting, the final season has new castmembers, including Ayazhan Dalabayeva as Nuka and The Expanse’s Cara Gee as Siana. Two characters from season two have been elevated to series regulars for the final season: Rosalind Chao as Zhang, and Amy Seimetz as Birdie.

No specific date has been given for the third season premiere, but you can expect it in 2024.
